Oh, to be a fly on the wall...

It has been a busy debut for the teachers involved in BGI (I will continue to abbreviate this since my blog readers should know what this means by now) and we are officially reaching the final stretch before Christmas. Let us circle back this week and remind ourselves what it’s all about.

The 3rd Class started the topic 'Apples and Crisps’ this week where they have been learning the English food names. Today, we played shopping games and they collaged their favourite foods on a plate.

Woodwork is also going well; we are making Paddle Ball toysand learning the names of the equipment necessary for making these toys. The children understand and following instructions, this is my educated observation since no one has yet lost a finger…

In sports, we have been learning drills and playing dodgeball. I have greatly improved my aim.

Class 4 are nearing the end of their ‘A Town like Mine’ topic and are beginning to prepare for their exam. Today I introduced a carousel of activities for revision of the topics. These included memory games; fill-in-the-gap activities; matching games and following directions while blindfolded.

Being the 1st of December, it’s officially time to defrost the Christmas music and start getting festive. That being said, I have a slight ringing in my head from the glockenspiel tune and am already sick of Jingle Bells.

As for ESL (English as a Second Language) progress, I have found myself less of a flapping parrot and more of a clear and concise being in the past few weeks. What I mean by this is that the children understand a lot more English. Their contextual understanding is strong and to the dismay of the children who already speak English at home, it is no-longer necessary to have a class translator.

A picture says a thousand words so here’s some from our week. I’m so grateful to be part of the children’s learning journey and am excited for the adventures to come.
